D.C. United’s terrible season ended with another dud but they at least made the game competitive. The final score was 5-2 in favor of FC Cincinnati at a sold out Audi Field. The loss gives the Black and Red a final record of 7-21-6 for 27 points. I’m not even going to look at the standings but that’s pretty much the bottom.
FC Cincinnati jumped out to a 3-0 lead. The first goal was scored by former United player Luciano Acosta in the sixth minute. They scored again two minutes later on a goal from Brenner. Brenner added another goal in the 24th minute.
D.C. United got on the board with a goal from Ravel Morrison in the 26th minute assisted by Sofiane Djeffal. FC Cincinnati answered back with a goal from Brenner to complete the hat trick. 4-1 was the score at the half.
In the 46th minute D.C. United got one back with a goal from Kristian Fletcher assisted by Tony Alfaro. In the 53rd minute FC Cincinnati put a bow on the game with a goal from Brandon Vasquez.
For Fletcher it was his first career start and first career MLS goal. Morrison had his second goal of the season.
Now the Black and Red enter an important offseason. It’s a rebuild and they’ll have to make some moves to be more competitive next season.
